The Guidance and Assistance Program (GAP) offered by Fearfully and Wonderfully Made is meant to help NICU families beyond the four walls of the hospitals with needs that arise surrounding the condition of the baby. No two stories are the same and therefore, the needs are not the same. Fearfully and Wonderfully Made's GAP has proven to be essential for families in need of gas to get to their baby, hotel stays to be near their baby, car seats for the correct weight, equipment for the best care, counseling for overwhelmed parents, and so much more.
With being in existence for 5 whole years now, we have been able to see tiny miracles grow into kindergarteners! We know the power of believing in and supporting these families that are fighting for miracles! We have seen many of these families turn around and pour back into other families fighting NICU battles! It is remarkable to see a previous NICU family stand in the GAP for a new NICU family!
As a board member of Fearfully and Wonderfully Made for a year now, I have had the opportunity to lead the newly founded "GAP" committee. We have been able to make many decisions to provide families with hotel stays to help families to be closer to their babies for care, gas cards for transportation to specialist visits after the NICU, counseling for families experiencing grief after the loss of their baby, and so much more. My wife and I experienced a brief NICU stay with our oldest daughter after she had to be resuscitated at birth. We also lost our third child to Trisomy 18. This changed us forever, but we have seen the goodness of God in every season. My own experiences have helped navigate the decisions I have helped make to support NICU and loss families through Fearfully and Wonderfully Made. I am asking you to help us stand in the GAP for these families and bring them hope. - FWM Board Secretary, Brandon Higgins
