Habitat for Humanity of Smith County has seen an increase with East Texans needing critical repairs. We average 150 projects a year in 7 counties. One family was running an extension cord to another house to have electricity and living with fire damage. Affordable housing is in high demand as we spend more time at home. We have seen 20-25% of our Habitat homeowners become delinquent on their mortgages due to COVID 19. We were not able to use volunteers on our projects and our annual fundraiser was moved to 2021. We have seen a drop in donations due to the pandemic and need to increase our staff to keep up with the heavy demand .
