Rusk County Heritage Association Howard-Dickinson House
About this Organization
The jewel of historic Henderson is the 1858 Howard-Dickinson House on South Main Street. Since 1964, the Rusk County Heritage Association has, first, restored the house to it's 19th century splendor, then worked to keep the house in good repair for use as a museum and as a place for community events. The house was only occupied by two families, and each lived there for 50 years. Sam Houston was a frequent visitor. Today, the house is open by appointment for tours and also open for special events such as Student Tours, Ghost Tours, Syrup Festival Tours and the Holiday Open House. The Rusk County Heritage Association board meets monthly to make sure the house is maintained and to plan events. Goals for the future include having a paid employee to open the house on a regular schedule. Funding from the community will help us reach that goal, and will help us keep this beautiful, historic house viable. We appreciate your support, and we welcome your interest as a volunteer!
