Historic Tyler, Inc.

A nonprofit organization

Historic Tyler, Inc. promotes the preservation and protection of historic structures and sites through advocacy, education, involvement, and public and private investment. Prior to February 2025, we accomplished our mission with one employee and dozens of volunteers. We recently added one part-time employee to assist in operations. Your support and donation to Historic Tyler enables us to serve as a resource for those interested in historic preservation in our community. We provide preservation-related material, including rehabilitation guidance, details on historic designations, information on historic districts, and much more.

Founded in 1977, Historic Tyler, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Since HTI's founding, our organization has undertaken many projects to preserve Tyler's historic landscape. The most notable are the multi-year efforts to designate districts on the National Register of Historic Places. Other preservation projects include: 1881 Jail, PATH headquarters, City of Tyler projects, The Woman's Building, Bergfeld Park, The Mayfair, Cotton Belt Rail Depot, and more.

Our recent publication, An Invitation to Preservation, is a 293-page coffee table book featuring over 80 historic homes in Tyler (for sale at local retailers). Currently, we are in the final phase of the Pollard Residential Historic District nomination. Once approved, Pollard will become the eighth (and largest) National Register district in Tyler.

Held annually each spring since 1981, Historic Tyler on Tour has been our nonprofit organization's largest annual fundraiser. Over 200 homeowners have graciously opened their historic homes to the public to showcase the benefits and beauty of historic preservation.
