Building New Beginnings: Recycle a Habitat Home in Angelina County

At Habitat for Humanity of Deep East Texas, we believe that everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home. We serve hardworking individuals and families across Angelina County and surrounding communities who are striving to build a better future but are priced out of traditional homeownership. Through partnership, sweat equity, and affordable financing, we help families achieve the strength and stability that comes with owning a home.

Today, we have a unique opportunity to create that stability again—by giving a home a second life.

This project focuses on a “recycled” Habitat home—a home that was once purchased by a Habitat family and has now been returned to us. Rather than letting it sit vacant or fall into disrepair, we are committed to rehabilitating and restoring it for a new partner family.

A recycled home is more than a renovation—it’s a powerful way to:

  • Maximize resources by reusing an existing structure
  • Promote sustainability by reducing construction waste
  • Expand affordable housing faster than building from the ground up

However, this home requires significant repairs and updates before it is safe, efficient, and ready for a new family. The work includes replacing major systems and essential features such as:

  • Air conditioning system
  • Water heater
  • Kitchen cabinets
  • Windows
  • Flooring
  • Bathroom fixtures

In addition to extensive clean-up and repairs, all materials must be purchased new, secured at a discount, or donated as approved in-kind contributions. Due to the scope of work, we will rely on a combination of licensed contractors and limited volunteer support to complete the project safely and efficiently.

We estimate the total cost to restore this home at $20,000.

Your support during East Texas Giving Day will directly help transform this house into a place where a new family can build memories, pursue opportunities, and thrive. By investing in this recycled home, you are not only repairing walls and systems—you are restoring hope, dignity, and stability for another family in our community.

Together, we can take something worn and make it whole again.

Help us recycle a home. Help us rebuild a future.
