Linden Heritage Foundation

A nonprofit organization

Established 2015, the Linden Heritage Foundation is the only non-profit organization in Cass County for the protection and promotion of cultural resources and the adaptive use of local historic sites as tools for cultural enrichment and economic development..

The work of the Foundation is made possible by the generous support of volunteers committed to preserving and celebrating the places and stories that make Linden distinctive and unique. Just since 2015, the Linden Heritage Foundation has made a difference in our community by:

• Documenting Downtown Linden as an eligible National Register Historic District, a designation with lucrative tax credits for owners who restore historic downtown buildings to national standards
• Qualifying our historic Water Tower and Firehouse for listing in the prestigious National Register of Historic Places
• Rescuing the Linden's 1934 Water Tower from an expensive and nearly tragic demolition order
• Securing a place for the 1939 Firehouse on Preservation Texas' 2016 list of Texas Most Endangered Places
• Successfully advocating for Linden to be designated a 2017 Texas Main Street City by the Texas Historical Commission
• Securing grant funding from the highly competitive Texas Preservation Trust Fund toward professional architectural planning work for the Firehouse restoration
• Documenting two prospective State Antiquities Landmark sites in the City of Linden for future state recognition
• Led the formation of a community partnership to reclaim the "Old Macedonia Cemetery - a nearly forgotten 19th century burial ground predominately for African-Americans that adjoins the Linden Cemetery
