Therapet: Animal Assisted Therapy

We utilize specially trained and certified animals to promote health, hope and healing.

Every day, our Therapet volunteers and their specially trained pets visit hospitals, schools, prisons, libraries, community organizations, and events to motivate, inspire and comfort people. Our animals inspire patients in therapy to walk a littler farther, motivate children to read aloud with confidence, and provide comfort to hospital patients.

Therapet is a 100% donor-supported organization and we do not charge any facility for our services. Therapet is a local organization and has served East Texas for over 24 years. A handful of volunteer teams has now grown to over 130 human volunteers, over 90 dogs, five cats and a bird. Our volunteers are at a facility or an event six to seven days each week for all 52 weeks of the year.

Even with so many dedicated volunteers, we are currently unable to meet the need for our services in East Texas. Our waiting list has grown to thirteen facilities and we receive new requests every week. In 2017, we were able to move two facilities off of our waiting list - Breckenridge Village of Tyler and the Lillie Russell Memorial Library in Lindale. With your help, we hope to recruit and train additional teams so we can move more facilities off of our waiting list in 2019!
