Smith County Historical Society

Founded in 1959, Smith County Historical Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, member-based organization with a mission to preserve and disseminate the stories of Smith County's past through collecting, displaying, and preserving data, records, property and other items relating to the history of Smith County, Texas. We operate a public museum and archives, provide free public programming, maintain Camp Ford Historical Park, and annually publish a historical magazine called Chronicles of Smith County, Texas. Our offices are located in a 1904 Carnegie Library at 125 S. College Ave. Tyler, TX 75702.

Recent public programs include: "Tyler, TX in the 1930s" (partnership with East Texas Symphony Orchestra; hosted at Liberty Hall), "History of Aviation in Smith County" (hosted at Historic Aviation Memorial Museum), "History of the Smith County Courthouse" (hosted at 1955 Courthouse), and "History of Sports in Smith County" (hosted at the Mayfair).
