Long before I joined ETYO, I had been on a 2-year hiatus. I lacked the motivation even to touch my instrument for 5 minutes, and I felt entirely disconnected from music. However, one day I found out that a violinist from UT-Tyler was going to give lessons in this small music building.
When the teacher finally arrived, I got into lessons with her. She had immediately begun preparing me for ETYO. Mind you, I had given up not that long ago. However, I pushed forward and began to practice. At the time, I still didn't believe in myself, but when I got the news that I'd made it in, I was ecstatic. I couldn't believe I made it in.
When I arrived at the first rehearsal, Mr. Mensch, the symphony-level orchestra's current conductor, made me feel comfortable in this new environment. His energy lit up the room, and he seems to love what he does. I was also glad to get to play in an orchestra, since my school does not offer one; it only offers a band.
Overall, ETYO has been a huge blessing from G-D, allowing me to meet new people, learn new music, and pick up my instrument again.
